Lt. Col. James L. Pence retired from active duty with the U.S. Army in February, 1957. He passed away, January 3, 1965. He was very proud of being a member of the Big Red 1. Honored by Pamela Thompson [2016-11-19 03:04:34]

On 6 June 1944 at 0800 the forward C.P. group of the 1st Battalion 16th Infantry landed on the left side of Easy Red - Omaha Beach. The machine gun and rifle fire was terrific and men were being hit...(After Action Report, 1st Division, 16th Regiment, 1st Bn., Headquarters Co.)
