William D'Huyvetters recalls hitting Omaha Beach on D-Day
Uncle Sam said he needed me. I was drafted into the Army and had basic training at Camp Croft, S.C., along with Henry Kissinger, the future secretary of state for Nixon. We called him Henny. He was a heck of a nice guy, a smart cookie. He wasn't in my company, but sure, I talked to him. Read more...

Let us remember those young soldiers who changed the course of history with their sacrifice. Let us commit ourselves to remembering their sacrifice by cherishing the freedom they bought for all generations that follow. Honored by Laurent Lefebvre [May 21, 2024]
On November 1st, 2017, I visited the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach. It was very moving to see the lines of white crosses. I had the honor to place a Coast Guard Flag and render a salute at the grave site of this fallen Coast Guardsman. With many thanks for your sacrifice. CWO4 Terry Manning Honored by Terry Manning [2017-11-16 23:24:02]
Dear August, My name is Marcie Fleming. I grew up and still live in your hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Your name was read aloud today at the 97th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 30, 2016 in Memorial Park. I noticed in the program that you were killed in action on June 6, 1944. I Honored by Marcie Fleming [2016-05-30 19:50:27]
